The Vernon Basement Walkout project, was constructed with the aim to provide easy access to the backyard for the client's family. It was more than just a construction task; it was about creating a space for memories and moments.
The existing deck's stairs obstructed the construction site and had to be repositioned, a small but significant adjustment to pave the way for the new basement separate entrance. More intriguing was the need to create a new basement door through an existing fireplace chimney, a task that required precision and creativity.
Our design required meticulous planning, as it ran perpendicular to the existing foundation. It featured a practical layout with two steps descending to a landing area that opened into the inviting in law suite. However, the real challenge emerged in accessing the construction site. The townhouse's position in a row meant the absence of a side yard for equipment access. Coupled with the inability to use the neighbor's backyard for equipment access and performing construction activities, our only route was through our own backyard. This required the careful dismantling and removal of a backyard fence, and meticulous planning for every movement of materials, equipment and construction personnel, ensuring the efficient and safe progression of the project despite the spatial limitations, all while being mindful not to disturb the neighboring properties.
The logistics of excavation and concrete pouring posed another challenge. The limited space behind the house couldn't accommodate a bin or a concrete truck. Our team demonstrated incredible resilience by transporting the excavated soil from the backyard to the front of the house, and conversely, carrying the concrete from the front to the backyard, all while navigating around the block. This task required not just physical effort but also careful coordination to ensure the project's seamless progression.
In spite of these logistical hurdles, our commitment to the project remained steadfast. We successfully adhered to the stipulated timeframe and contract, a reflection of our dedication to craftsmanship and client satisfaction. The client's delight with the completed project was a heartwarming affirmation of our efforts. It was a realization of their dream, enhancing their family life with a new, functional, and aesthetically pleasing space. This project, with its unique challenges and ultimate success, epitomizes Northcon Corp's dedication to transforming challenges into opportunities for creating meaningful and lasting living spaces.
